Autism Awareness Day 2022

On Friday 1st April 2022 we celebrated Autism Awareness Day. Firstly, we recapped on what we had learned last year about autism. We then learned about living with autism from the perspective of Megan, a ten year old girl from Canada whose little brother Matt has autism. We learned a lot from watching Megan go through daily life, and we have definitely taken away some brilliant ways to help make life easier for someone with autism. We also wore blue on the day to support Autism Awareness!

Thank you to all of the boys and girls for taking part.

Cumann na mBunscol

Congratulations to the 4th, 5th & 6th Class Girls’ Football Team who took part in four games over the last few weeks while taking part in the Cumann na mBunscol School League. Unfortunately we were unsuccessful in going forward to the final but the standard and performance from the girls in all their games was outstanding. Thank you to the coach Darragh Flanagan and to the girls for their dedication and commitment to their team.  Well done girls!

Mother’s Day 2022

5th & 6th Class made the most amazing pom-pom flower bouquets for all the wonderful mammies for Mother’s Day!

Seó Faisin Rang a Cúig agus Rang a Sé

Well done to the pupils of 5th & 6th Class who organised, planned and performed a wonderful fashion show as Gaeilge using language learned from our Irish lessons over the last few weeks on the theme of ‘Éadaí’. It was a huge success!

Magnetism in 5th and 6th Class

We were all delighted to get back to school after Christmas and to begin working together again. January has been a busy month so far where the pupils have researched and compiled projects on Greece.  They have learned about the landscapes of some famous artists such as Monet from which their own unique Winter Landscapes emerged.

Our Accelerated Reader Programme is going from strength to strength with some pupils already achieving certificates and prizes. Keep up the fantastic reading everyone!

A lot of fun and learning took place in Science where we investigated Magnetism in depth which required the pupils to investigate making their own magnets together with designing their own magnet powered car. Take a look at the photos and click on the videos below to see their impressive results!

5th & 6th Class Activites

There has been a hive of activity in 5th & 6th class over the last few weeks. The pupils researched and compiled impressive projects on an island and an interesting building of their choice. In Irish they took to debating, in delivering arguments for living in the city versus living in the countryside. The pupils learned about writing poetry and to date have both created and performed some very interesting pieces of poetry. In Maths the boys and girls engaged in constructing 3D shapes. In Science the pupils investigated the properties and characteristics of materials and lots of fun was derived from designing and carrying out experiments in this area.

We finished our first novel and integrated with this learning was making clay famine cottages which were truly spectacular.

The pupils really enjoyed their 6 week course with the Bike Green Cycle Right Programme where they learned to be more competent and confident cyclists.

For Christmas 5th and 6th class produced a show stopping performance and made some amazing festive windows and snowflakes to decorate our classroom.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful new year!!

Food Dudes

Food Dudes is an award winning curriculum-linked evidence-based healthy eating programme, developed to encourage children to eat more fresh fruit and vegetables. It is based on repeated tastings of fresh fruit and vegetables, rewards and positive role models.

The boys and girls were delighted to take part again this year, and enjoyed plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Well done everyone!

Visit from Santa 2021

We were very lucky on Monday 13th December to have a visit from the one-and-only Santa Claus. The children got to tell Santa what they want for Christmas, and received a beautiful photo and gift.  What a special start to the week!

Thank you to our Parent’s Association for making it all possible!

Term 1 in 5th & 6th Class

What a wonderful first term we have had!!  5th and 6th Class have been so busy…

They investigated and researched the Romans from which impressive projects emerged. They designed and made Roman inspired pottery. In Gaeilge the pupils learned about the topics of ‘Mé Féin’ and ‘Bia’. Delicious menus and recipes were planned as a result. In Science the pupils took part in experiments based on Light which proved both successful and informative. This in turn led to individual projects on ‘The Eye’, the standard of which were truly amazing! Lots of learning and fun took place on the theme of Halloween with Picasso Frankenstein Art work, poetry, report writing on Halloween traditions not to mention engaging in a variety of games & activities and of course having a Halloween party with a movie and lots of treats! Well done on all of your hard efforts this term 5th & 6th class. Have a SPOOKTACULAR HALLOWEEN and looking forward to what our next term brings!!
