Last May, Carrickmacross Tidy Towns ran a poster competition titled ‘Feed the Bees’. There were lots of amazing entries from our school but the winner with his tagline ‘Don’t be a Hater, Save the Pollinator’ was Joshua Hughes in 3rd Class. He received his prize today. Well done Joshua!

1st and 2nd Class are ready for their Christmas Performance 2021

We had such great fun in our classroom preparing for our Christmas performance of ‘The Grinch who stole Christmas’. We worked so hard learning our lines, songs and dance routines and we were eagerly waiting for December 8th for our individual chance to shine. We got into the Christmas spirit for our special day by wearing our Christmas jumpers and accessories. Didn’t we look just fabulous?

We shone like the bright stars we are and we are so proud of ourselves.

Teacher said she is so proud of us too. We were so tired after all the hard work and excitement that we just had to take a well deserved rest!

We can’t wait for our parents to see the DVD.

December in 1st and 2nd Class

We decided to begin the month of December by allowing our creativity shine through. We all love being creative in 1st and 2nd class. We did some Christmas art. We made the most wonderful Snowman collage. It wasn’t easy because we had to cut out big and small pieces of coloured paper to add to our collages. The buttons for the snowman and the Christmas lights were the most difficult but we really enjoyed our art lesson. We are so excited for December and all the fun things we will do and learn in school in the lead up to Christmas!

Toy Show Day in 1st and 2nd Class

We ended November with such great excitement. We had a Toy Show Day on Friday the 26th November in our class. We learned and sang some songs from the Lion King. Teacher read us the story of A Hug For You by David King as she wanted to share with us how and where the journey of Adam’s virtual hug began. It was a cold day so teacher also gave us a treat of Hot Chocolate.

You will see from our faces that is was just delicious!

3rd and 4th Class – November News

It has been a busy month in 3rd and 4th class.

In Maths we have been learning about fractions, decimals, multiplication and division. The children faced these challenging concepts will determination and should be really proud of their hard work.

In English, we started our Class Novel – ‘An Eagle in the Snow’. We know already that it is going to be a very interesting read.

We have been looking at the Aimsir Chaite in Irish and the children have been learning Na Briathra Rialta – An Chéad Réimniú agus An Dara Réimniú. We have now moved on to Na Briathra Neamhrialta and the children have even learned a song to help them remember these.

We explore the Vikings and made our very own Viking Brooch using paint, cardboard and pasta.

The children used the brand new tablets to research some artic animals including polar bear, the artic fox, the artic hare, the walrus and even reindeer.

Finally, we created some amazing art work based on The Starry Night by Van Gogh – these turned out to be simply spectacular.

As we approach the most wonderful time of year, we have lots of fun activities ahead for December!

Halloween 2021 in 1st and 2nd Class

We had so much fun dressing up for Halloween, just look at our costumes! Don’t we all look fabulous?

What a great way to end our first eight weeks in 1st and 2nd Class. We have worked so hard and look forward to being back at school after our break for more learning and fun-filled activities.

Happy Halloween from all the boys and girls in 1st and 2nd Class!

October Mask Designing in 1st and 2nd Class

We had so much fun drawing and designing our very own masks. We were all going to do Halloween masks but since we only use them once a year, we thought it would be an even better idea to pick our own theme and design our masks based on the theme. Some of us still chose a Halloween theme while others chose, Spring, Summer, Egypt, the moon and many other themes.

It took us two weeks to complete this art as we had to paint first and let that dry and then add colour to our drawings.

Our masks are something we will be able to keep forever. They are on display in our school corridor at the moment for everyone to see because we are so proud of them.
