News Reporting in 1st and 2nd Class

During the month of October we were busy working on our Oral Language skills. We loved news time each week as we had the opportunity to use the RTE Microphone. We felt like real news reporters.

Maybe some day in the future you will see some of us reporting on the Six One News!

September in 1st and 2nd Class: Pop Art

We really enjoyed our Pop Art lesson inspired by the work of Andy Warhol. Teacher took pictures of us and printed them in black and white. We added colour by using oil pastels for the first time. We added some really cool and funky hair colours and designs that we thought best suited our personalities.

How cool is our work?

Term 1 in 5th & 6th Class

What a wonderful first term we have had!!  5th and 6th Class have been so busy…

They investigated and researched the Romans from which impressive projects emerged. They designed and made Roman inspired pottery. In Gaeilge the pupils learned about the topics of ‘Mé Féin’ and ‘Bia’. Delicious menus and recipes were planned as a result. In Science the pupils took part in experiments based on Light which proved both successful and informative. This in turn led to individual projects on ‘The Eye’, the standard of which were truly amazing! Lots of learning and fun took place on the theme of Halloween with Picasso Frankenstein Art work, poetry, report writing on Halloween traditions not to mention engaging in a variety of games & activities and of course having a Halloween party with a movie and lots of treats! Well done on all of your hard efforts this term 5th & 6th class. Have a SPOOKTACULAR HALLOWEEN and looking forward to what our next term brings!!

October in 3rd and 4th Class

Well, what a busy few weeks it has been in Mrs. Lennon’s Room. We have been exploring 2D shapes and using cubes to help us understand division in Maths.

Miss Connolly taught us all about space and we made our very own rockets to launch!

The boys and girls were very lucky to head on a trip to Cloghan GAA grounds to take part in this year’s Blitz – the first to happen in a long time! The weather was great, the children were all fantastic and we had an absolute ball! Mrs. Lennon was very proud of each and every one of the children, both for their excellent behaviour and fantastic sportsmanship!

We finished October on a high with Halloween celebrations. Such an amazing effort made by everyone dressing up. We played games, watched movies, had a Halloween Parade and tucked into a treat or two. Thank goodness there weren’t many tricks!

Enjoy the holidays everyone and stay safe!

Halloween 2021

We had great day on 22nd October 2021 celebrating Halloween in St. Michael’s National School. The children dressed up and each class had a Halloween party. We took part in Trick-or-Treat for Temple Street and raised €170 for this very worthy cause, well done everyone!

We also held a socially-distanced fancy dress parade and fancy dress competition. Congratulations to our winners – Lucas, Calum, Calum, Anna, Saoirse, Tom, Liam and Cassie.

Well done to everyone on an amazing first term! We look forward to seeing you all in November!

Halloween in the Infant Classroom

We have had lots of fun preparing for Halloween this October.

We learned all about Halloween and discussed our Halloween traditions. We also took part in Aistear based around the theme of Halloween.

In art we created these ‘creepy spiders’ as well as mosaic pumpkins.

We were also very lucky to have Oisín in to teach P.E. on our Halloween dress-up day.

We have had a wonderful week, and wish you all a safe and happy Halloween break!

First Holy Communion 2021

On Saturday the 9th of October 2021, thirteen amazing children finally got to make their First Holy Communion.

Our entire school community is incredibly proud of each and every one of them. They did our school proud with their prayerful and respectful participation in the mass. They sang their hearts out and we are certain that it will be a day that they will never forget.

What an honour it was to guide such wonderful children on their journey of faith to the sacrament of First Holy Communion.

We would like to say a sincere ‘Thank You’ to Fr. Daly for all his support as we prepared for this special day. He without doubt ensured that the day would be a memorable one for the children.

We hope that your weekend of celebrations was all you wished for and so much more and we wish all thirteen of you every blessing in the future. May God continue to guide you in faith and protect you with his love.

Autumn Hedgehogs

Our wonderful infants used toothbrushes to create these beautiful Autumn Hedgehogs. We learned all about hedgehogs and how they are preparing to hibernate for the Winter.
