The infants have been busy learning lots about sound for SESE. They explored their indoor and outdoor environment for a variety of different sounds and made their very own sound instruments!
Learning about Shapes in Infants
Junior and Senior Infants were working very diligently over the last few weeks learning all that they could about 2D and 3D shapes. They had great fun hunting for the different shapes outside, engaging in a problem solving circuit involving shape in the classroom and they made wonderful shape pictures.
Lá Fhéile Pádraig i Seomra Mrs. Mc Guirk!
This year we celebrated Saint Patrick’s Day by having a Saint Patrick’s themed day in our classroom on Wednesday 13th of March 2019. We learned about the life and legend of Saint Patrick in our religion and history lessons today. We also learned about how Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated here and around the world. In ‘Gaeilge’,we learned lots of vocabulary linked to Saint Patrick’s Day, played some games to practice our vocabulary and made some lovely Saint Patricks’s Day cards. For maths, we completed Saint Patrick’s themed maths challenges and Saint Patrick’s Day symmetry. We sung ‘Hail Glorious Saint Patrick’ and made Saint Patrick’s Men.

Maths in Mrs Mc Guirk’s Room
During the month of February, we have been learning about symmetry in class. After learning about what symmetry is, the children experimented with the concept by making some symmetry pictures. Have a look at some of their efforts below!
Next we focused on various 2-D shapes and their properties. During maths time we completed various worksheets on 2-D shape, played 2-D shape dice games, sang 2-D shape songs and for art we made some very interesting shape people using 2-D shapes. See some of our finished pictures below!
We also learned about 3-D shapes and their properties. During Maths time we completed various worksheets on 3-D shape and explored their properties, experimented with 3-D shapes that roll and stack and took part in a 3-D shape search around our school.
First Confession 2019
Eight special pupils celebrated the Sacrament of Penance on Tuesday 5th March 2019 in St. Lastra’s Church, Donaghmoyne. Well done to the eight girls in second class for their respectful and prayerful participation on the night. Every one of them should feel very proud of their efforts, both in preparation for and during the ceremony. The school choir sang beautifully and made the occasion a memorable one for the First Confession Class.
We hope that the children enjoyed this special ceremony and that they will look back with fond memories of this special night.
Pancake Tuesday in Ms. Atkinson’s Room
We would like to say a huge thank you to Amanda, Pauline and Joan, our parent volunteers, who gave up their time on Tuesday 5th March to come in and cook some beautiful pancakes for the children for Pancake Tuesday.
The children had a fantastic morning and we very much appreciate it!
Incredible Edibles
Incredible Edibles is a healthy eating initiative for Primary School pupils. It encourages schools across the country to get busy growing carrots, lettuce, potatoes, strawberries, turnips and herbs. Schools are supplied with grow packs containing everything they need to grow a veritable feast of healthy foods!
Ms Atkinson’s class are very lucky to be taking part in this initiative this year. We planted our seeds in early March, so it is now just a matter of waiting for nature to do its job!
