Ancient Greece Projects

Ms Atkinson’s room have been focusing on the history and geography of Ancient Greece this January. Children completed projects on Ancient Greece in groups. They showed great initiative in independently sourcing and selecting the information best suited to their project area.

Henry Fraser Art

Ms. Atkinson’s class recently looked at the paintings of Henry Fraser. Fraser is a former rugby player who, after a tragic accident, was left paralysed from the neck down. Fraser decided to take something positive from the experience and is now a very famous artist – what an inspiration!

Golden Time

Ms Atkinson’s class earned 30 minutes golden time as a result of their good behaviour this week. The children chose to use this time to play board games with their classmates after another hard week of work in 4th, 5th and 6th class.

FArTHER

Ms Atkinson’s class have recently started studying the book ‘FArTHER’ by Grahame Baker-Smith. The children used paints to depict what they predicted the book to be about.

Christmas 2018

We have been feeling very festive lately in Ms. Atkinson’s room. Check out some of the Christmas activities completed by the children this year!

The children created beautiful snow globes using paper plates and clingfilm.

Children enjoyed some extra golden time at the beginning of December to allow time for Rang 6 to decorate our Christmas tree. They did a wonderful job!

The children used recycled materials to design Christmas Tealight Holders as a Christmas gift for their parents. They were a huge success!

Ms. Atkinson held a colouring competition in our classroom. While she found it difficult to choose a winner, they were very deserving!

The Science of Sound

This week we looked at the science of sound and vibrations. We have been investigating how paper cup phones work. Children discovered that they work by transmitting sound vibrations along a tightly pulled string. The children tested which materials would be best to make their own paper cup phones and had great fun testing them out!

Hit the Button

We were all very excited in Ms Atkinson’s classroom last month when we managed to fix the interactivity on our whiteboard. The children have really enjoyed playing Maths, English and S.E.S.E. games using the whiteboard this month. Check out the photos below to see some of the children practicing their times tables by playing ‘Hit the Button’.

Kickboxing Success!

On Friday 30th November 2018, Annie, Molly and Maggie were graded in kickboxing. Annie received her brown belt, Molly received her purple belt and Maggie received her green belt.

Annie and Molly then had a kickboxing fight on Sunday 2nd December, with Annie receiving a silver medal and Molly receiving a bronze.

The girls attend kickboxing classes in Carrickmacross every week and have made fantastic progress over the past few years.

Well done girls!

Late Late Toy Show

Congratulations to Eva (sixth class) who will take part in ‘The Late Late Toy Show’ for the second time on Friday 30th November 2018.

Best wishes on the night Eva!
