1st and 2nd Class have been very busy in the field of science. We had Louise Swords from CLAYOTIC in on Monday 14th of November 2022, using clay to make various different dinosaurs with the children. We had a webinar from Linda Birkin, telling us lots of facts about insects. We also learned lots of different Science facts each day and completed various exciting experiments in class too. Have a look at our Science expertise at work below!
Halloween 2022
We had great day on 28th October 2022 celebrating Halloween in St. Michael’s National School. The children dressed up and each class had a Halloween party. We also held a whole-school Halloween disco. We took part in ‘Trick or Treat for Sick Children’ and raised almost €300 for this very worthy cause, well done everyone!
We also held our monthly assembly, where numerous children were awarded with certificates for their hard work this term.
Wishing you all a happy and safe Halloween!
Happy Halloween from 3rd and 4th Class
It’s hard to believe, we are at the end of the first half of term already – we have been busy in 3rd and 4th class.
The boys and girls have worked extremely hard since September and should be very proud of their efforts.
In Maths – we have been exploring addition, subtraction and multiplication, all of which will set us up to tackle lots of other areas in Maths throughout the year.
In English, we have been busy with Recount and Report Writing. The children wrote some exceptional pieces, about fairies. We will be keeping a close eye out next time we are in the woods, to see if we can spot one! They also blew their teacher away, with some amazing reports on a country of their choice – super impressive!
In Irish, we have been exploring the Aimsir Chaite Briathra Rialta. The boys and girls have really grasped these over the past few weeks which is amazing! We have also been practicing forming our own sentences in Gaeilge through games which has been great fun! We looked at Mé Féin and Bia.
We have been learning about our bodies, inside and out as well as delving into the past, learning about The Stone Age.
To top it all off, we have been in full swing practicing for our big show and by golly is it going to be a good one, not to be missed!
We made some fantastic mosaic pumpkins and had a spooky colouring competition.
The children made a fantastic effort with their costumes for our Halloween Dress Up in aid of Trick or Treat for Temple Street so well done to everyone. We enjoyed our Halloween disco and assembly where we performed our Oíche Shamhna song for the whole school.
Well done to all the boys and girls in 3rd and 4th who have made a great start to the school year. We can’t wait to see what comes next. Have a very Happy and Safe Halloween!

Busy Bees in the Infant Classroom
Our Junior and Senior Infants have been very busy over the past few weeks. We have settled in really well to school life and have managed to pack in a lot of fun along the way!
We have been working on our cutting skills.
We revised all of the colours of the rainbow.
We have been working on our phonological awareness by learning different rhymes and poems. After learning ‘Humpty Dumpty’ we decided to create our own using our amazing cutting and painting skills!
We have taken part in fun PE lessons with Eamonn from Monaghan Coaching and Games Committee.
.. and we created these ‘Busy Bees’ reminding us of the classroom rules that we decided on back in August!

Welcome Back Everyone!
Good Afternoon everyone,
It’s hard to believe that we are returning to school on Monday. The Summer has gone by so fast. I hope you all had a very enjoyable break and are well rested. We are very excited to welcome you all back, and we are looking forward to another amazing year in St Michaels.
Before returning, here is a quick reminder of a few school rules:
- Gates open at 9.15 am, students are not insured to be on the premises before this time.
- Junior Infants/ Senior Infants, 1st & 2nd Class, all enter the school via the main front door to the left when they enter the yard. 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th class will enter via the bottom door to the right when the enter the yard. They will be directed by myself/ Debby / Nicola so no need to worry.
- Junior Infant parents are more than welcome to take their children into their classroom , for the first day. However, with limited space and lack of the middle yard (as building work on our new classroom has commenced), we would urge parents to enter and leave the building as soon as possible. Photographs can be taken in the yard before entering the classroom. Junior Infants will finish at 12pm for the first two weeks. This will allow them the time they need to adjust to the school life gradually, without exhausting them.
- We are a health promoting school and would ask parents to refer to our healthy eating policy regarding appropriate school lunches. Due to several children with nut allergies, no products containing nuts are permitted on the premises.
- Please ensure your child has all books/ copies etc with them on their first day. This will allow teachers the opportunity to get their classrooms set up and will enable teaching to take place as soon as possible. Please label everything for your child!!!!!!
- We are very excited to see our lovely new school jumper and we would ask parents to adhere to the school uniform. Plain grey tracksuit bottoms (not leggings) and grey polo t- shirt.
- While we are no longer required to adhere to Covid 19 guidelines, we would ask parents to continue to promote and encourage good hygiene etiquette, as we will within the school.
- School finishing time will return to 3pm for all classes, with students leaving via the same gate they enter from.
If there are any queries, please email stmichaelsnsdonaghmoyne@gmail.
See you all Monday,
Ms Whelan.
Yoga Bears 2022
As part of our Active Schools Campaign and also our Mental Health Initiative, the Junior Classes in the school enjoyed participating in some yoga based lessons with Mrs. Mc Guirk. We learned how to relax and unwind and also explored techniques to help us stay focused. Everyone enjoyed the Yoga Bears sessions.
School Tour 2022
Staff and pupils were full of excitement on Friday 13th of May 2022. It was our first school tour since 2019, so we were delighted to get the opportunity to go on an outing as a whole school again! Our destination this year was Castleblaney Outdoor Adventure Centre.
The children got involved in several physical, mental, skill and water-based challenges. The day was enjoyed by all and everyone arrived home in great form after their fun filled day of activities.
