Celebrating Saint Patrick in Mrs. Mc Guirk’s Room!
This year we celebrated Saint Patrick’s Day by having a Saint Patrick’s themed week in our classroom, from Monday 14th – Wednesday 16th March 2022. We learned about the life and legend of Saint Patrick in our religion and history lessons. We also learned about how Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated here and around the world. In ‘Gaeilge’,we learned lots of vocabulary linked to Saint Patrick’s Day, played some games to practice our vocabulary and made some lovely Saint Patricks’s Day cards. For maths, we completed Saint Patrick’s themed maths challenges , Saint Patrick’s Day symmetry and addition. We sung ‘Amhrán na bhFiann’ and made Saint Patrick’s Men and Saint Patrick’s Day Badges. We even sent home some postcards to our families to wish them a Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!

St. Patrick’s Themed Cookery!!
For our third week of cookery, we decided to make some sweet treats for Saint Patrick’s Day!! We made delicious marshmallow rice krispie squares and of course we just had to add something green for the occasion!! We used green sweets and green icing to do this!! The children got to take home the food to show their families and maybe even let them have a taster!
Great cooking today 1st and 2nd Class. Well done!!

For art this week, we experimented with doing some collaborative art, to show that together we can make something wonderful!! I think the boys and girls did amazing work!!
Seachtain na Gaeilge 2022 Rang a haon agus Rang a dó!!
Seachtain na Gaeilge takes place from 1st-17th March 2022 this year! We really made a big effort to use as many of our Irish phrases and vocabulary each day in class. We would like to thank Muireann who we linked up with through ‘Crowdcast’ and enjoyed an interactive bilingual session with, on Wednesday 9th March. We got dancing and learned some new Irish phrases too!! Thank-You to Monaghan County Library for putting us in touch!
Big Houses of Monaghan
Today we had an interactive lesson using Google Teams, with Pauline Tilson, who works for the Monaghan County Museum. We learned lots of very interesting facts about Hope Castle, Castle Leslie and Hillton House, to name a few of our local places of interest. We also had the chance to ask Pauline any questions we had. The boys and girls really came up with some very clever questions for Pauline. Well done!!
