‘Farmyard in your Schoolyard’

On Wednesday 19th June 2019, the pupils in St. Michael’s National School Donaghmoyne, were very fortunate to have some special visitors come to our school. Stephen from ‘Farmyard in your Schoolyard’ came to visit, and brought along an array of farmyard animals. He talked to the boys and girls about the various animals, including goats, chickens, roosters, guinea pigs, rabbits and even Shaun the Sheep! The children loved having the opportunity to learn lots of interesting facts about these animals, as well as having the chance to pet them.

A word of sincere thanks to our Parent’s Association for organising and funding this fantastic event!

Father’s Day Themed Day 2019

In Mrs. Mc Guirk’s room we had a ‘Father’s Day Themed Day’ on Friday 14th June 2019 to celebrate Father’s Day.

We created our own Father’s Day Prayers in religion.  We made Father’s Day posters in Gaeilge and we did colour-by-number activities for maths. We listened to various Father’s Day Poems and created some of our own. We sang some Father’s Day themed songs for music and made some Father’s Day clay ornaments and badges in art. We finished our day by learning about some Father’s Day traditions for our history lesson.

Take a peek below at some of our activities…

School Uniform

We would like to remind parents of the school uniform that is expected to be worn daily in St. Michael’s National School.

Our uniform consists of dark grey trousers / skirt / pinafore, a grey t-shirt and a maroon jumper with the school crest. We ask that children do not wear black, navy or patterned trousers, and strictly no labels or logos (e.g. o’neills, nike etc.).

Parents, please make a special effort to ensure that your child is wearing the correct uniform every day.

An example of the appropriate school uniform can be seen below.

Community Games 2019

We had a very important visitor here today (22nd May 2019) in St. Michaels N.S. Donaghmoyne. John Mullen from the Active Flag Programme came to assess our school as an Active School. He was delighted with the work all our staff and pupils have been doing and will continue to do as part of this programme. We are delighted to announce that we have been successful and we have been awarded our Active Schools Flag.

In recent weeks, we have also been successful in achieving our Health Promoting School Status from Jennifer Treanor (Co-Ordinator of the Health Promoting Schools Programme) and we received our Health Promoting Certificate and flag.

Our third ‘Green Flag’ for Water Preservation and Conservation was also awarded to us by Moira Kelly (Monaghan County Council), who visited our school for our water themed day. We will celebrate everyone’s hard work and dedication towards the end of the school year when we raise our three flags.

Well done everyone on your fantastic achievements!
