Happy Easter from 3rd and 4th Class

After a super term of hard work in 3rd and 4th, everyone is delighted the Easter holidays have arrived.

This term, 3rd and 4th have been writing wizards, exploring persuasive, explanation and report writing.

In Maths, we have been looking at probability, fractions, decimals and 3D shapes. We even built our very own shapes. 3rd class have completed their multiplication tables while 4th class are pros at their division tables.

In Gaeilge, we were singing ‘Tóg amach mé’ for Lá Glas. We have learned our Aimsir Láithreach Briathra Rialta and will be moving on to the Briathra Neamhrialta after Easter.

We dived into the Amazon Rainforest when we were learning about Brazil. We completed group projects, covering various topics including: Animals of the Rainforest, Birds of the Rainforest, Layers of the Rainforest and Plants of the Rainforest. This was a topics that the children really enjoyed and it certainly added colour to our classroom.

We have also been exploring a bit closer to home, learning all of the counties of Ireland and what they are famous for.

Finally, we are all working on individual projects about a country of our choice. The children have been using books and tablets to research their chosen country and will present their findings to the class after Easter.

This term was full of events, including World Book Day, Pancake Tuesday, Mother’s Day, Lá Glas and finishing the term with a Pizza Party.

We have had lots of fun and are looking forward to seeing what our last Term brings!

Happy Easter everyone – enjoy the break!

Have an EGGcellent Easter from 1st & 2nd Class

First and Second class were ‘Busy Bunnies’ this week! We completed lots of lovely activities around the theme of Easter. In Religion, we looked at the history of Easter and the Easter Story. In Gaeilge, we learned lots of Easter vocabulary and made a lovely Easter card.  In English, we listened to some Easter poems and created our own EASTER Cinquain poems.  We also listened to an Easter story entitled ‘Saving Easter’ and sequenced the different parts of the story. Our music lesson consisted of singing some Easter themed songs and adding in our own actions. The children got to perform the ‘Bunny Cokey’ Song for the whole school. For art, we made an Easter Bunny and an Easter Basket. We finished up for Easter by having an Easter party and we even had a visit from the Easter Bunny!

Easter in the Infant Classroom

Our infants were very busy in the lead up to Easter this year. We learned all about the Easter story in religion and why we celebrate Easter. We learned some Easter vocabulary in Irish and played some Easter games. We also created our own Easter Chicks!

We learned the poem ‘Busy Bunny’ which we performed at our whole-school assembly. Head over to our facebook page to see it!

Finally, we had a very special visitor on Friday 31st March – THE EASTER BUNNY! The children were very excited to receive their special treat just before the holidays.

Have a lovely Easter break everyone!

Easter Raffle / Food Bank Collection

We are so incredibly proud of our amazing student council! They have worked tirelessly over the past few weeks organising our Easter Raffle and Food Collection for Carrickmacross Food Bank. We filled over 50 bags of groceries and treats for local families to enjoy over the Easter holidays. Thank you to all of the students and parents who have supported this cause, we are very lucky to have such a generous population in our small school!
Thank you to Kathleen from Carrickmacross Food Bank who came to collect the items. The work that they do for local people is absolutely outstanding – we are lucky to have such kind people amongst us.
Congratulations to our raffle winners – Teagan, Kelsie and Oisín.

Construction projects were simply outstanding as these photos clearly show.

Real-life Maths took the pupils to measuring many distances around the school building. Lots of fun with this one! As part of our Shape strand 5th & 6th class also engaged in a variety of shape-based activities such as making 3D shapes and working with tangrams from which unique designs emerged.

We are all very proud of our 6th class who made their Confirmation on 25th March. Congratulations to you all and we hope you had a memorable weekend of celebrations with your families.

Happy Easter one and all and we look forward to our last term together in April!!
