Halloween in Mrs. Mc Guirk’s Room

HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM FIRST AND SECOND CLASS!

This week we have been busy learning about Halloween Safety, Halloween Traditions, singing Halloween songs in both Irish and English and reciting Halloween Poetry. We had great fun making our own SPOOKTACULAR SPIDERS and AMAZING MASKS too.

We all had FANGTASTIC FUN on Friday when we showed off our talents at our Whole School Assembly. We got to display  our Halloween Costumes, as we danced, all in support of Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

Maths Week in the Infant Classroom 2022

We have been very busy this week as we celebrated Maths Week. The children took part in various maths-based activities, focusing particularly on using their ‘maths eyes’! Have a look at what we got up to…

We designed and created shape monsters.

We completed some ‘shape printing’ for art!

We played snakes and ladders in pairs.

And finally, we tried to focus more on the natural maths in our environment – maths is everywhere! The boys and girls took some time to use their maths and eyes at home, recorded these, and then presented these to the class. Well done to all of the boys and girls for taking part!

Maths Week 2022

We celebrated Maths Week this week in 1st and 2nd class.  We played lots of maths games, answered maths questions on story books and tested out our maths eyes by answering and posing maths questions based on photographs. Well done boys and girls for your active participation.

Cumann na mBunscol

There were fantastic celebrations among our brilliant footballers here in Saint Michael N.S. school this week as they progress to the final of the Cumann na mBunscol school league, which will take place on Saturday 22nd October in Castleblayney.

We would like to say a massive thank you to our coach Darren Fox for helping prepare the boys for the competitions.

Autumn

In first and second class, we have been learning about changes in autumn and all about trees, their life-cycles, their parts and the functions of these parts. We enjoyed using pointillism to create lovely autumnal trees.

Growing Up Fast!

We have been busy in 1st and 2nd Class in our History lessons. We have learned about different stages in the human life-cycle and engaged in various sequencing activities. We also learned some important facts about our own life-cycles to date and created our own booklets entitled ‘My Family – A Booklet All About Me’. We had great fun playing a game of ‘Guess the Baby’ by looking at and guessing who was in the baby photographs.

Rainforest Animals

In Second Class, we have been learning about different animals that you would find in the rainforest. The children then did some research of their own, using the tablets to find out facts about a rainforest animal of their choice. This was a great activity for them to test out their report writing skills.

Busy Bees in the Infant Classroom

Our Junior and Senior Infants have been very busy over the past few weeks. We have settled in really well to school life and have managed to pack in a lot of fun along the way!

We have been working on our cutting skills.

We revised all of the colours of the rainbow.

We have been working on our phonological awareness by learning different rhymes and poems. After learning ‘Humpty Dumpty’ we decided to create our own using our amazing cutting and painting skills!

We have taken part in fun PE lessons with Eamonn from Monaghan Coaching and Games Committee.

.. and we created these ‘Busy Bees’ reminding us of the classroom rules that we decided on back in August!

All-Ireland Medal Winners

Huge congratulations to these girls who took home Bronze medals from the All-Ireland Community Games Dance Competition. A massive achievement girls and we as a school are very proud. Well done!
