Autumn Activities in 1st and 2nd Class

We were very busy in autumn in our classroom!! Below are but a few of the activities we completed!!

In English we focused on recount writing and learned about story structure. We practiced various poems and focused on expression when reading aloud.  Second class are working on a book entitled ‘Rainforest Animals are Important’, which we hope to send off for publication on completion.  We engaged in various online workshops via zoom to learn about different author’s and their creations. We also listened to a Halloween story called ‘The Spooky Invitation’ and created our own invitations and recipes based on the story.

In Gaeilge we learned lots of vocabulary around the themes of Mé Féin and An Bhaile.  We also worked on the theme of Oíche Shamhna.   We played games, we sang songs and did roleplays in order to practice the new vocabulary we encountered.

In Art, we completed lovely self portraits and worked on Picasso style pictures, we extended pictures to create autumn images,  we did some Halloween prints and also made some lovely Halloween figures.

In S.E.S.E. we learned about homes and houses in our environment, our county, changes in autumn and we also made memory books, detailing all the important events in our lives to date. We enjoyed learning about the origin and History of Halloween.

We have been very lucky to have had Ross in with us over the  past number of weeks, helping us develop our Gaelic skills. We also engaged in some Halloween themed P.E. games with our teacher.

We also engaged in our monthly School Assembly and performed some songs for the whole school. We also got introduced to our new student council.

We had a visit from Janet who showed us how to make up shoe boxes for the Shoe Box Appeal.

We would like to wish everyone a SPOOKTACULAR HALLOWEEN!! STAY SAFE EVERYONE!

Maths Week in First and Second Class

This year Maths Week took place between 14th -22nd October 2023.  We engaged in lots of fun activities to develop and practice our maths skills.  We used our Six Bricks to follow instructions, answered questions on math’s posters, played games online and on our tablets, listened to a story in order to answer math’s questions and used our Math’s Eyes at home and at school to answer questions on our environment. Well done boys and girls for your active participation!!

Friendship Week 2023 in First & Second Class

Friendship week took place this year between 18th -22nd September.  We took time to reflect on the importance of friendship in our school.  We identified qualities of a good friend, learned a friendship song and made friendship bracelets.

Dressed for Summer

First and Second Class got creative, designing their own swimwear and sunhats.

School Disco

On Friday 9th June the children were delighted to attend our first ever school disco arranged by our student council. The student council organised disco lighting, the playlist and of course some disco accessories for each student. The photobooth was a particular hit with the students – have a look at the photos below!!

Sports Day 2023

On Thursday 8th June we travelled to Donaghmoyne Fontenoys GAA club for our annual Sports Day. The children (and teachers) had great fun taking part in various races and stations. A huge thank you to our past pupils who helped organise the day. Well done everyone!

School Tour 2023

Staff and pupils were full of excitement on Friday 19th May 2023 as we set off on our annual school tour. Our destination was the ‘Crystal Maze Outdoor Activity Venue’ in Kilmainhamwood. The children got involved in several physical, mental, skill and water-based challenges, based around Ireland’s largest hedge maze. We had a wonderful day!

Sewing

This term, Debby has been teaching sewing to the children in all classes. We can’t believe how skillful they have become in just a few shorts weeks, and it’s clear how much they are really enjoying it!
