Autism Awareness Day 2021

There was a sea of blue in St. Michael’s N.S. on Friday 16th April as we celebrated our first annual Autism Awareness Day on Friday 16th April. The children in each class took part in various lessons throughout the day to raise awareness about autism. They learned what autism is, how to communicate with someone with autism, and how we could make school life easier for someone with autism. We wore blue on the day in support of autism awareness.

We also completed a whole-school collaborative art project which you can view below. The puzzle pattern reflects the complexity of the autism spectrum. It also shows that although we all have different personalities and abilities, we all fit together to create one amazing school community.

The children engaged really well and learned a lot! Well done boys and girls!

A huge thank you to our Parent’s Association who managed to contact the Easter Bunny to arrange the visit.
Wishing you all a safe and happy Easter break!

Christmas in 5th & 6th Class

The lead into Christmas this year was a busy one and thankfully we started early! Here are a few snippets of what I can only describe as a breathtaking show. I was so proud of all my budding actors and actresses so well done everyone and I hope you all enjoy the DVD of ‘Not Such A Silent Night’ among family and friends over the Christmas holiday period. Our Christmas candle jars also provided a wonderful backdrop to our show.

Last but by no means least were the Christmas Shape Poems that the pupils designed, masterpieces in their own right! Well done to the boys and girls in the senior classes for your attention, diligence and hard-work this term. Now lots of chocolate has been well earned over the Christmas break! Merry Christmas everyone and I look forward to seeing you all safe and well in the new year.

Smoking Poster Competition

For SPHE we learned a lot about Smoking and Alcohol. We had a poster competition where the challenge was to design a poster and/or box of cigarettes with the sole purpose of deterring others from Smoking. The results were simply wonderful and there is no doubt that everyone was a winner with this one!

Lego We Do

In SESE over recent weeks, 5th & 6th class embarked on the Lego We Do challenge and wow were the results superb! Watch this space for the future engineers of Donaghmoyne!!
