Congratulations to the children from Ms. Atkinson’s room who were chosen to be part of our quiz teams this year. Two teams will take part in the Credit Union Quiz on Friday 1st February, and one team will take part in the Cumann na mBunscol quiz on Tuesday 5th February. We wish them every success on both nights!
St. Michael’s N.S. are holding an enrolment night on Tuesday 5th February 2019 at 7.30pm. Parents wishing to enrol their children for September 2019 or 2020 are invited on the night.
Please come along to see our school and some of the exciting changes that are happening in St. Michael’s N.S., including our new fully-equipped Special Education classroom. A short informative talk will be given on the night by our Infants teacher Mrs Campbell. Our principal Ms Whelan will also be available to answer any queries that you may have.
Light refreshments will be served on the night. This is a brilliant opportunity to meet and socialise with other parents in our school. Parents will receive enrolment packs on the night which will include an enrolment form.

Our new crib and Christmas tree were very welcome additions to our school this year.
School Choir
At the beginning of December, our school choir performed in St. Lastra’s Church for members of our local community. The children performed beautifully on this very special occasion.
Silly Santa Flash Mob
As part of our Active Schools Flag Campaign the children of St. Michael’s National school put on their santa hats to participate in a Silly Santa Flash Mob Dance on Thursday 20th December 2018. We all had brilliant fun and pulled some SANTAsational moves! Thank you to the Active Flag Dance Leaders for preparing us and leading us in the dance! Check out the photos below of our preparations.
Talent Show
On Thursday 20th December 2018 we held a school talent show. All children were given the opportunity to take part. We had many fantastic performances from the very talented children in our school. As the children performed so well, they were rewarded with treats and a movie in the afternoon. This was a very enjoyable experience for both participators and spectators.
Santa’s Visit
We had a very special visitor on Friday 21st December 2018. Santa Claus arrived in style and managed to speak with every child in the school. He also had a gift for children. We would like to thank our Parent’s Association for organising Santa’s Grotto. A great day was had by all!
Best Line and Best Class Awards
We would like to congratulate 4th class who received certificates and prizes for being the best line this term. Congratulations also to Junior Infants who received certificates and prizes for being the best class on the yard this term. Well done everyone!
Christmas Jumper Competition
Congratulations to the winners of our annual Christmas Jumper Competition which was held on Friday 21st December 2018. Children put in a fantastic effort – it is great to see their efforts rewarded. Well done everyone!
On Tuesday 4th December 2018, the children from Ms. Atkinson’s room had the opportunity to help plant some lovely fruit trees in our new friendship garden. All children in the school then got to put their name on a tree which they will watch grow as they progress through the school. Our friendship garden was organised by the Parent’s Association and is a very welcome addition to our beautiful school. The children really enjoyed being a part of this very worthwhile event.
We would like to thank our parent’s association for organising our garden, as well as Paul and Russell from Callan’s Garden Centre Donaghmoyne for their help on the day. We can’t wait to enjoy the fruits of our labour!
On Monday 3rd December 2018, the children of St. Michael’s National School travelled to The Garage Theatre in Monaghan to see ‘Little Bo-Peep’s Christmas Mix-Up’. We all had a fantastic day!
Science Week is an annual event that took place from the 11th to the 18th of November 2018. On Tuesday 13th November 2018, Janette Lynch from Carrickmacross Library visited our school to allow the children to experiment with ‘Spaghetti Engineering’. The children really enjoyed making various structures from spaghetti, marshmallows and hot glue. Have a peek below at some of their efforts. Well done everyone for taking part!
Everyone had fantastic fun this Halloween in St. Michael’s National School. We took part in ‘Trick or Treat for Temple Street’, raising some much needed funds for Temple Street hospital. We dressed up and played games to wind down after a busy first term.
We held a fancy dress competition; winners are pictured below.
As part of our Active Schools Campaign, we also decided to hold a Halloween themed active event. This included Halloween orienteering, mandarin and spoon races, pass the pumpkin, score the skeleton, spooky musical statues, a broomstick relay, wrap the mummy and hunt the witch. The children had lots of fun taking part!
Well done to everyone for their participation and to our active leaders who helped make the event a success!
