Graduation 2020… With a Difference!

After over three months apart, the students, parents, families and staff of St. Michael’s National School came together today to show the most amazing display of solidarity and community spirit in saying farewell to their 6th Class students.
Tiernan, Lauren, Jessica and Eimar received one of the most remarkable and memorable send offs St. Michael’s N.S. has ever seen. They were showered with gifts and treats as they stood and waved farewell to all of their peers who came and took part in the parade. What a wonderful way to finish their eight years in primary school.
We would like to say a big thank you to everyone, especially the Parents Association and our wonderful staff for making this day possible.
Thank you to all our families who came out in support.

Enjoy a safe and happy Summer holiday everyone. We look forward to seeing you all in September!

World Book Day 2020

We were blown away by the effort made by all the children for World Book Day. They really made their favourite stories come to life. We had a parade to show case all the costumes and the children completed some fun activities in each of the classes.

See all the pictures below including our winners from each class who received a prize!

Well done everyone – We appreciate everyone’s effort to make World Book Day so much fun!

The Winners were: Lauren, Caoilte, Oran, Maggie-May, Calum, Cormac, Lucy and Tom – Well done!

Christmas Fun at School!

We had a very special visitor at school today. The children were very excited to see Santa. They performed some Christmas songs and poems that they have been learning in class. Santa had a gift for every child which  can be enjoyed over the holidays.

Our Christmas jumper competition was a success. Well done to all those who made an extra effort, Winners received a beautiful Christmas book – see pictures below.

On behalf of everyone here at St. Michael’s, we would like to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas. See you all in 2020.

Ice-Cream at School!

Have you ever seen such beaming smiles before? Not unless you got an ice cream at school from the Ice Cream Van! It goes without saying from these little faces that everyone enjoyed their surprise! Thank you to the Parents Association for organising and funding this.

Ice Cream Van

On Monday 24th June 2019 we were very lucky to have an ice cream van visit our school. This was a wonderful end-of-year reward for the children after all of their hard work during the 2018/2019 school year.

Well done everyone!

Schools in the Past

We would like to extend our thanks to local man Frank Rooney who visited our school on Thursday 20th June 2019. Frank told the children some very interesting stories about life long ago, going into detail about life at school when he attended St. Michael’s National School. The children really enjoyed hearing about how he used to walk to school barefoot in the Summer time, and how girls were not allowed to play football at lunch time.

The art of storytelling is one that is slowly dwindling and we were very lucky that Frank gave up his time to provide this opportunity for the children.

Visit to Donaghmoyne Park

The boys and girls had great fun on Friday 21st June 2019 when they visited Donaghmoyne park with their teachers.

It is wonderful to have such a fantastic facility right on our doorstep and the children loved spending time with their friends.

Bike Green – Monaghan Sports Partnership

On Friday 21st June 2019, we were very fortunate to be offered a free taster session from Bike Green by the Monaghan Sports Partnership. Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First Class got to learn many valuable cycling skills, using balance bikes.

A massive thank you to Seán and Francis for coming to visit us today and providing the children with this fantastic opportunity!

Flag Raising Ceremony

There was huge excitement in St. Michael’s National School on Wednesday 19th June 2019 as we came together as a school community to raise three very important and well-deserved flags. Both staff and pupils have worked extremely hard and have shown huge dedication and commitment to achieve a flag for Water Conservation and Preservation, a flag for recognition as a Health Promoting School and also a flag for achieving Active School Status. We had a fantastic day gathering together to mark our success.

On the day we also opened our beautiful new friendship garden. A sincere word of thanks to our parent’s association for making our friendship garden possible – your unending support doesn’t go unnoticed!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended the Flag Raising Ceremony and who contributed in any way to making the day a memorable one. A special thank you also to our special guests ‘Hiphopical’ for their fantastic dance display and to Drew Wylie from the Monaghan County Team who raised our three flags for us.

Well done to everyone! Our staff and pupils are very proud to be flying the flags for St. Michael’s N.S. Donaghmoyne.

‘Farmyard in your Schoolyard’

On Wednesday 19th June 2019, the pupils in St. Michael’s National School Donaghmoyne, were very fortunate to have some special visitors come to our school. Stephen from ‘Farmyard in your Schoolyard’ came to visit, and brought along an array of farmyard animals. He talked to the boys and girls about the various animals, including goats, chickens, roosters, guinea pigs, rabbits and even Shaun the Sheep! The children loved having the opportunity to learn lots of interesting facts about these animals, as well as having the chance to pet them.

A word of sincere thanks to our Parent’s Association for organising and funding this fantastic event!
