Happy Saint Patrick’s Day 2023 from 1st and 2nd Class

This year we celebrated Saint Patrick’s Day by having a Saint Patrick’s themed week in our classroom, from Monday 13th – Thursday 16th March 2023. We learned about the life and legend of Saint Patrick in our religion and history lessons. We also learned about how Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated here and around the world. In ‘Gaeilge’,we learned lots of vocabulary linked to Saint Patrick’s Day, played some games to practice our vocabulary and made some lovely Saint Patrick’s Day headbands. For maths, we completed Saint Patrick’s themed maths challenges and Saint Patrick’s Day symmetry. We  made Saint Patrick’s Men for art. On Thursday, we all wore something green to school, to mark this very special occasion.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day to Everyone!!!!

World Book Day in 3rd and 4th Class

Wow – what a success!!

3rd and 4th class were busy this week creating their favourite characters using POTATOES as a base, in preparation for World Book Day. From Minions to Willy Wonka, Captain Underpants and Winnie the Pooh, to name but a few – they all turned out amazing!

Student Council

Our student council have been working very hard over the past month. After discussions with their class, the student councilors brought many fantastic ideas forward.

Firstly, they felt that birthdays weren’t being properly celebrated in St. Michael’s and came up with the idea of purchasing a birthday badge for each class so that people could feel more special on their birthday. They decided to write a letter to our board of management to request money to purchase birthday badges and thankfully, our board of management agreed. Luke and Katelyn travelled to Carrick to purchase the badges and the children are now delighted that they feel a little extra-special on their birthday!

Secondly, the children felt that it was time we brought back our pre-covid Pancake Tuesday tradition. The student council wrote a letter to our Parent’s Association asking if they would be available to come in on Pancake Tuesday to make pancakes for the children. We had a wonderful day and were very grateful to our Parent’s Association for making this happen.

Finally, our student council took a key role during our enrolment evening on 23rd February. They helped the teachers set up on the night and gave tours of our school to parents on the night.

The student council are now working on an Easter Raffle, as well as a collection for Carrickmacross Food Bank. We are very proud of the work that they have put in over the past month, we’ll done everyone!

Sacrament of Penance 2023

Thirteen special pupils celebrated the Sacrament of Penance on Tuesday 21st of February in St. Lastra’s Church, Donaghmoyne.

Well done and congratulations to the seven boys and six girls in second class for their respectful and prayerful participation on the evening of their First Confession.

Every one of them should feel very proud of their efforts, both in preparation for and during the ceremony. The occasion was a memorable one, enhanced by beautiful singing and readings.

A huge thank you to Father Daly for celebrating this special occasion with us.

Happy Valentine’s Day from 1st & 2nd Class
